This simple syrup recipe, also known as a recipe for sugar syrup or gomme syrup, is very simple, as its name implies.
This syrup is a common ingredient in many cocktails, including some margarita recipes.
The advantage of making a sugar syrup, instead of just adding sugar and water to a drink, is that with this recipe the sugar is already dissolved in the water and you do not need to stir quite as much to dissolve the sugar into the drink.
Add the sugar into the boiling water, and then let it simmer on the stove for 2-3 minutes. During this time all the sugar should have dissolved into the water and the syrup will be clear.
Then, take the mixture off the heat and let it cool. Once it is cool bottle it and use in your cocktails or other drink recipes.
If you do not use it all immediately you can store it for approximately 3 weeks in the refrigerator, as long as you bottled it in a sterilized container. Otherwise it will only keep for about a week. It is so easy to make I suggest only making enough for a short amount of time.
